Resolve to Be Ready in 2011
March is American Red Cross Month, a great opportunity for citizens, families and businesses to review disaster plans and build or restock emergency kits.  According to FEMA Region X Administrator Ken Murphy, the American Red Cross not only provides help, hope and healing when disaster strikes, but also offers a wide selection of CPR/AED, first aid, disaster response and emergency preparedness training.

Parent Alert:  Dangers of "Bath Salts"
According to several reports, the latest culprit in drug abuse comes in the form of what we all thought to be a harmless and legal household item, bath salts.  Emergency calls are being reported due to the over-exposure to the stimulants the powders often contain: mephedrone and methylenedioxypyrovalerone, also known as MDPV.   “The effects of the powders are as powerful as abusing methamphetamine." Increasingly, law enforcement agents and poison control centers say the advertised bath salts with complex chemical names are an emerging menace in several U.S. states where authorities talk of banning their sale.

Cell Phone Ban in School Zones
This is a reminder that the use of cell phones while driving in active Irving school zones is prohibited to help provide additional safety to children. The city guidelines for the ban (which are enforced on school days during active school zone hours) ban motorists from engaging in calls by talking, dialing or listening on a hand-held mobile telephone, and entering or reading text messages.   This includes...
