Travis Students Send Support to Persian Gulf
Travis students presented Navy officers with flags
they created in their homeroom classes last week. The flags will be
displayed aboard the USS Wasp, an amphibious assault ship in the Persian
Gulf.
Students created the flags after hearing about a
contest between the Wasp and a sister ship over who could receive the
most mementos from home. Life Skills and Career Investigations Teacher
Lillie Smith told students about the contest and organized the donation.
The flags contain messages of encouragement and
gratitude to the service men and women. They were presented to officers
from the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth on Friday during a special
assembly at Travis.
