Swine Flu Prevention
In
cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), Irving
ISD is helping to educate the public regarding the potential threat of
swine influenza (flu), and preventative measures to stay healthy.
Parents are encouraged to keep their
children at home if children have symptoms of the flu – particularly
fever. If any member of the household displays flu-like symptoms, ensure
they receive medical care immediately. People diagnosed with swine flu
are instructed to stay home for seven days after the start of the
illness and the fever is gone. Wash hands after being around a sick
child, and take steps to limit contact between sick children and healthy
family members.
IISD will provide information to
DCHHS regarding absences related to flu-like illness. School employees
should not be allowed to report for duty if flu symptoms – particularly
fever – are present, and employees should seek medical attention for
testing and treatment. As with students, employees should remain at home
for seven days following the beginning of illness and relief of fever.
Schools will ensure that students
and employees have adequate respiratory hygiene items available, such as
soap in bathrooms, hand sanitizer, and tissues. Frequent hand washing
and the covering of mouth and nose when sneezing can help prevent the
spread of illness.
