Students Attend Teacher Conference
Students from the Early Childhood/Education
Specialty at The Academy of Irving ISD attended a conference for
professional educators in Dallas last week. The students heard
Governor Rick Perry speak at the convention and one student,
DeMarcus Rogers, shook the governor’s hand.

The students were introduced to the
entire assembly at the end of the conference and given a standing
ovation for their interest and commitment to the future of
education.
The organization sponsoring the conference, the
Association of Texas Professional Educators, is the largest
non-union teachers’ organization in the country.

Annual Egg Drop
Kindergarten teachers at Davis Elementary have
developed an odd tradition. Recently their classes took part in the
annual Roof Top Egg Drop. Students were challenged to package a raw
egg in a container so that it wouldn't break when dropped from the
school's roof. Davis Principal Marilyn Naron had the honor of
dropping the packages. After the drops were made, students returned
to the classroom and graphed the number of eggs that broke against
the number that didn't.
