Olympian Show & Tell
Olympic
gold medalist Brad Bridgewater will visit Good Elementary School on
Wednesday, February 20 to talk with fourth and fifth graders about
setting and pursuing goals. Bridgewater won Olympic gold as a swimmer in
the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta. He will bring his medal with him.
Brown Teacher Published
Brown
teacher Lorie Heydenburk will soon become a published author. Heydenburk
received word last month that her manuscript, Seven Cookies, was
selected for publication by Lee and Low Books of New York. Seven
Cookies is a book for emergent readers about sharing and kindness.
“I was
very surprised,” Heydenburk said. “It’s so hard to get all the things in
there that publishers are looking for. It’s very exciting that they
happened to choose mine.” Heydenburk sent three manuscripts to Lee
and Low in response to their call for works with multicultural themes
for emergent readers. “This was my first attempt at writing for
general publication and I’m floored and thankful,” Heydenburk said.
Heydenburk has been published before with articles in the Texas
Counseling Association Journal. She has been counselor at Brown for
three years.

Transfer
requests will be accepted between March 1 and April 1. Transfer request
forms are available at all IISD schools. Decisions to accept or reject

Healthy Lunchrooms
Cafeteria
managers took part in a new training class last week led by an Irving
city health inspector. Lisa Pomroy gave a presentation about proper
dishwashing and other sanitation procedures in cafeterias.
Food
Service Director Michael Rosenberger said the event was part of a new
partnership between the District and the city to ensure the best
possible service at school cafeterias.
“We
envision this partnership being one where we would have the city’s
health inspectors become a regular part of our manager meetings and
in-services, to provide the latest training on health, safety and
sanitation to our managers,” Rosenberger said.
