Irving High Student To Attend Presidential Classroom

Chase Gooding, a senior at Irving High, will attend Presidential Classroom’s Science, Technology and Public Policy Program next month in Washington DC. One of the nation’s leading civic education programs, Presidential Classroom provides students a firsthand look at the political responses to change brought about by scientific advances.

Gooding will attend the program from February 9 to February 16. The week’s activities will include a seminar with a NASA astronaut and visits to the National Security Agency and the National Academy of Sciences. Other program highlights include visits to senators’ and representatives’ offices, observing congressional hearings and possibly touring the White House.

Gooding will join hundreds of high school students from across the country and abroad as they attend seminars presented by leaders representing each branch of government, the military, media, science and technology. Small group workshops will enable students to debate current scientific issues such as the role of government in scientific research and Internet privacy.
