Tillerson Honored as Teacher of the Month
Jeffrey Tillerson, advanced
placement calculus teacher at MacArthur High School, was honored as
Teacher of the Month for December. Tillerson is a graduate of MacArthur
High School and attended Texas A&M University, where he earned his
Bachelor of Science degree in applied math sciences. He later received a
Master of Education degree in administration from Texas A&M and began
his teaching career in College Station, Texas. Tillerson came to Irving
ISD in 1994 as math teacher and softball coach. Tillerson is currently a
full-time math teacher at MacArthur, where he has served for 14 years.

Martinez Recognized as Employee of the Month
Emilia Martinez, food service
manager trainee, was recognized as Employee of the Month for December.
Martinez began employment with IISD in October 2001 as a food service
substitute. In December of the same year, she was promoted to food
service assistant and was again promoted to food service technician in
2004. Martinez entered the food service manager trainee program in 2008
and will assume duties of food service manager as opportunities become
available. In addition to food service duties, Martinez is actively
involved in her son’s soccer team and in her church.

Gold Performing Schools Recognized
As a result of recent performance on
the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, 26 IISD schools have
received Gold Performance Acknowledgements. The Gold Performance
Acknowledgement System recognizes districts and schools for high
performance on 14 different indicators other than those used to
determine accountability ratings.
Schools receiving performance
commendations are: Irving High School, The Academy of IISD, Austin
Middle School, Bowie Middle School, Crockett Middle School, de Zavala
Middle School, Houston Middle School, Lamar Middle School, Travis Middle
School, Barton Elementary School, Brandenburg Elementary School, Britain
Elementary School, Brown Elementary School, Davis Elementary School,
Farine Elementary School, Gilbert Elementary School, Good Elementary
School, John Haley Elementary School, Hanes Elementary School, Johnston
Elementary School, Keyes Elementary School, Lee Elementary School,
Schulze Elementary School, Stipes Elementary School, Townley Elementary
School, and Townsell Elementary School. At the district level, IISD
received a Gold Performance Acknowledgement for commended scores in
social studies.

authorization of revised Board Policy FL (Local) addressing video
recordings as educational records that are protected under federal
