IISD Schools Recognized for Gold Performance

During the Board of Trustees meeting February 6, trustees recognized the 29 Irving ISD schools for the 51 Gold Performance academic acknowledgements earned from the Texas Education Agency.

The Gold Performance Acknowledgement system recognized districts and schools for high performance on 15 different indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings, however the district or school must be rated Academically Acceptable or higher to be evaluated on the Gold Performance criteria.

In addition to the below honors, Irving ISD was awarded a Gold Performance Acknowledgement in Social Studies.

Principals and representatives from IISD elementary schools were recognized February 6 for the academic acknowledgements their schools earned from Texas Education Agency. Schools pictured are Barton, Brown, Britain, Good, John Haley, Thomas Haley, Keyes, Lee, Farine, Schulze, Elliott, Hanes, Townley, Davis, Gilbert, Townsell and Stipes elementary schools and Wheeler Transition & Development Center.
 
Principals and representatives from middle and high schools were recognized February 6 for the academic acknowledgements their schools earned from Texas Education Agency. In addition to Sherry Perkins, IISD social studies coordinator, pictured are Irving High, MacArthur, and Nimitz high schools, Singley Academy, Wheeler Transition & Development Center, Travis, Lamar, Austin, Houston, and de Zavala middle schools.

Trustees took action on the following items: amended multi-year construction budget and 2011-2012 capital projects budget…awarded contract for roof repair and replacement project at MacArthur High School…awarded contract for roof repair and replacement project at Houston Middle School…awarded contract for roof repair and replacement project at Thomas Haley Elementary School…awarded contract for roof repair and replacement project at Townsell Elementary Schoolapproved first reading and filing authorization of TASB Update 91, Update 92 and other local policies…approved the election, renewal, and resignation of employees as recommended by the superintendent of…and scheduled and called public hearing on illustrative or proposed 5-2 single-member district plan/map for 2013 elections.

Noon Work Session

During the noon work session February 6, Trustees: received an annual report from Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber Of Commerce…received a report from Irving Schools Foundation…discussed the proposed administrative procedures for Disadvantaged Minority-Owned/Women-Owned Business Enterprise Program for qualified businesses…received a report on the IISD Technology Media Fair…and received update on district vending program.

Cub Scout Pack 819 helped open the IISD Board of Trustees meeting February 6 by leading attendees in the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Angela Warr, engineering teacher at Nimitz High School, is recognized by Board of Trustees President Heather Ashley and IISD Superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden for being named 2012 Outstanding New Teacher of the Year by the North Texas Technology Educators Association.

Dr. Alice Owen, division director of instructional technology, is recognized by Trustees President Heather Ashley and Superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden for receiving the Texas Computer Education Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Fifth grade students from Thomas Haley Elementary School are recognized by Trustees President Heather Ashley and Superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden for winning the Aiming for the Stars Academic Bowl at North Lake College January 31. The MacArthur High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Steve Innis, provided entertainment to officially present the newly-renovated Administration Building Atrium prior to the Board of Trustees meeting February 6.
