Morris Recognized for Service

Dr. Marie Morris, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, was recognized by the Board of Trustees for having devoted 48 years in service to public education.

Morris earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Missouri State College and Master of Education degree from Pan American University. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of North Texas. Morris holds lifetime provisional certification in general elementary education, and also professional supervisor and mid-management administrator lifetime certification.

She began her career in 1962 in Blackwater, Missouri. In 1975 she moved to Harlingen ISD as elementary teacher, becoming principal in Harlingen ISD in 1979. Morris served as administrative intern in IISD in 1986, then joined Education Service Center Region XI in 1987. She became associate superintendent in Birdville ISD in 1998, then joined Irving ISD as assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in 2002.

The IISD Board of Trustees and Dr. Dana T. Bedden, superintendent of schools, recognize Dr. Marie Morris, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, for her 48 years of service in public education during their meeting January 24.

Miller Honored as Teacher of the Month

Jennifer Miller, choir teacher at Bowie Middle School, was honored by the IISD Board of Trustees January 24 for having been named IISD Teacher of the Month for January.

Miller graduated from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. After earning a bachelor’s degree in music, she attended Oklahoma City University, earning a master’s degree in music. Miller is certified and highly qualified as a music teacher grades early childhood through 12, and has five years of teaching experience, all at Bowie.

Board of Trustees Secretary Heather Ashley honors Jennifer Miller, choir teacher at Bowie Middle School, for having been named as January Teacher of the Month.

Hancock Recognized as Employee of the Month

Teelia Hancock, special education paraprofessional at Townley Elementary School, was recognized by Trustees for having been named Employee of the Month for January.

Hancock joined Irving ISD as a special education aide at Keyes Elementary School in 1995. With the introduction of LIFE skills classes in IISD, she transferred to Townley and was instrumental in helping establish the program at that school.
