Frausto Honored as Teacher of the Month

Patricia Frausto, prekindergarten bilingual teacher at Pierce Early Childhood School, was honored by the IISD Board of Trustees as Teacher of the Month for April.

Frausto is a graduate of University of Texas at Dallas and joined Irving ISD in 2007. She is certified and highly qualified in bilingual education grades early childhood through grade four, and was named 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year at Pierce.

Lewellen Recognized as Employee of the Month

Harold (Red) Lewellen, utility equipment operator in the Facilities Services Department, was recognized by Trustees as Employee of the Month for April.

Lewellen joined Irving ISD in 1973 as grounds maintenance person, then became utility maintenance person in 1976, taking over backhoe operator duties. From 1979 to 1984, Lewellen served as welder for the district, then transferred back to the grounds department. In 1991 he became grounds foreman. In 2004 Lewellen was named utility equipment operator, requiring mastery of all heavy and light machinery owned by IISD.

Approved Resolution & Order #09-10-19 accepting supplements to the Irving ISD tax rolls.

Approved submission of the Federal Teaching American History Grant application for 50 teachers to attend four single-day Saturday workshops and for 25 of those teachers to attend a Summer Seminar at sites important to American history.

Approved the Educator Quality Consolidated Grant application — part of the Beginning Teaching Induction & Mentoring Program, Cycle 4 — to establish or enhance the IISD beginning teacher induction and mentoring program in order to increase retention of beginning teachers with fewer than two years of teaching experience.

Approved the Learn & Serve Texas Grant continuation application for Career and Technical Education students at Nimitz High School to engage young people in service to their communities as a means of developing a lifelong ethic of service, enriching their academic learning, promoting personal growth, and helping them to develop the skills needed for productive citizenship.

Approved plans for elementary and secondary summer school instructional programs and athletic camps for Summer 2010, to be funded through tuition fees, local budgeted funds, Title III, and/or other grants.

Approved Resolution #09-10-106 for final payment application of $660,316 and closeout documentation for MacArthur High School bond construction project.

Approved Resolution #09-10-107 for final payment application of $57,566 and closeout documentation for Johnston Elementary School bond construction project.

Approved Resolution #09-10-108 for final payment application of $300,193 and closeout documentation for Irving Schools Stadium bond construction project.

Approved Resolution #09-10-109 for final payment application of $74,125, and closeout documentation for Ratteree Career Development Center bond construction project.

Approved Resolution #09-10-110 selecting Competitive Sealed Proposals as the method of procurement for playground equipment project at 13 early childhood and elementary schools.

Approved the 2008-2009 Irving ISD Academic Excellence Indicator System report.

Approved Resolution & Order #09-10-20 authorizing 2010-2011 teacher salary schedules with two percent new money and keeping IISD in the top five of area districts in every pay cell.

Approved Resolution #09-10-111 establishing an IISD Board of Trustees meetings schedule.

Approved Resolution #09-10-112 pertaining to the election and resignation of employees as recommended by the interim superintendent of schools.
