Cochran Honored
as Educator of the Month
Bea Cochran, librarian at Davis, was
honored as Educator of the Month for April. Cochran has served the
District for five years. She serves students with an outstanding library
program that promotes reading through Read for America, Texas Bluebonnet
Reading Program, Caldecott Reading Program, Dr. Seuss Bash, author
visits, book fairs, and many other activities. Cochran is the chair of
the Librarian Literacy Committee, and a member of the Librarian
Evaluation Committee, Librarian Curriculum Committee, Librarian Patron
Responsibility Committee, Irving Cluster Storytelling Committee, and the
Media Fair Committee.
Kelly Recognized as Employee of the Month
Joan Kelly, food service technician
at Davis, was recognized as Employee of the Month for April. Kelly has
served the District for 20 years, beginning in 1982 when she went to
work at Brown. Kelly is a favorite among students and staff alike since
she often brings homemade sweets for teachers. Kelly plays flute in
Davis’ summer musical and has a special place in her heart for stray
cats.
Board Thanks Nissan for
HIPPY Contribution
The Board of Trustees heard a
presentation from the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool
Youngsters Program detailing the contribution of more than 300 used
computers to parents in the program from the Nissan Corporation.
Representatives from Nissan were present to accept a plaque and the
Board’s thanks for their contribution as were students from the Irving
High technology program who helped set up and distribute the computers.
