Silver School
Award Winners Recognized
The
Board of Trustees recognized the IISD schools awarded Silver School
status by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of
the HealthierUS School Challenge.
Schools winning the Silver Award are: Barton Elementary School,
Brandenburg Elementary School, Britain Elementary School, Davis
Elementary School, Gilbert Elementary School, Hanes Elementary School,
John Haley Elementary School, Johnston Elementary School, Lively
Elementary School, Schulze Elementary School, and Stipes Elementary
School.
In
order receive the Silver School designation, schools must meet or exceed
the nation’s second-highest standards for student exercise, healthy
meals, and nutrition education. The 11 IISD schools represent the
largest group of schools in a single school district in the state of
Texas to be recognized as Silver School winners at a single time.

Approved Resolution #08-09-12 authorizing purchase of
Computrace computer theft tracking software for high school student
laptops through an agreement with Dell at a cost of $129,215. |

Approved Resolution #08-09-13 authorizing expansion
of the program, Plugged-in to Reading, for all middle schools
and high schools to be purchased from Recorded Books at a total cost
of $139,313. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-14 authorizing a release
and settlement agreement with AT&T regarding tariffied service rates
for 2008-2009. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-15 authorizing and
awarding 27 vendors in accordance with RFP #08-81 for school and
department custom apparel and requiring departments to solicit at
least three competitive quotes prior to initiating services. |

Approved Resolution #08-09-17 authorizing purchase of
supplies and equipment for Career and Technology HST Programs at
Irving High School, The Academy of Irving ISD, and Union Bower
Center for Learning through various interlocal agreements not to
exceed a total cost of $68,685, plus an estimated 10% of cost for
shipping charges. |

Approved Resolution #08-09-18 authorizing purchase of
scanners from GovConnection for each school in order to process TREx
document exchanges at a total cost of $60,755. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-19 awarding a contract to
Dr. Joan M. Bush of JSB Research for evaluation of IISD 21st
Century Grant programs at a cost of $28,000. |
 |
Approved the Texas Fitness Now Grant application for
Austin Middle School, Bowie Middle School, and de Zavala Middle
Schools to further the goal of reducing childhood obesity and Type
II diabetes. |
 |
Approved two Intensive Reading Instruction/Intensive
Math Instruction (IRI/IMI) grant applications for Schulze Elementary
School (IRI) and Johnston Elementary School (IMI) to provide
intensive instruction to improve student performance in reading and
math. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-20 authorizing a
professional services agreement between Strong Father & Strong
Family Programs and Irving ISD to design and implement parent
involvement programs focused on father involvement to be paid for
with Title IV, Safe & Drug-Free Schools funding. |
 |
Approved state waiver for student early dismissal at
MacArthur High School in order to accommodate Academic Decathlon
Regional Competition January 30-31, 2009, reducing disruption and
facilitating the large number of classrooms needed for competition
activities. |
 |
Approved Ordinance #08-09-01 revising regulations
governing the annual performance appraisal of the superintendent of
schools. |
 |
Approved Resolution
#08-09-21 authorizing purchase and installation of 400 projectors
through an agreement with Master Audio Visuals at a total cost of
$777,540. |
 |
Approved class size waiver for Fall semester 2008 in
accordance with the provisions of Texas Education Code Section
25.112 for one class at Schulze Elementary School that exceeds the
state mandated 22:1 limit by one student. |

Approved Resolution #08-09-22 authorizing a list of
administrators as appraisers for the IISD professional development
and appraisal system. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-23 repealing Resolution
#94-95-50 pertaining to the IISD student code of conduct. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-24 authorizing first
reading and filing authorization of TASB Update 83 and other local
policies CCA, CCA (Exhibit), CQ, EG and FEC. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-25 pertaining to the
election, removal and resignation of employees as recommended by the
superintendent of schools. |
 |
Approved Resolution #08-09-26 accepting gifts and
donations to the district for the month of September 2008 totaling
$78,521. |

Discussed procurement method for district-wide
