Trustees, Administrators Honor Recognized Schools

The Board of Trustees honored the nine IISD schools rated as “Recognized” by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) through the state’s 2007 Texas School Accountability Rating System. The nine schools are Barton, Brandenburg, Brown, Gilbert, Good, John Haley, Hanes, and Keyes elementary schools and Lamar Middle School.

Dr. Marie Morris, assistant superintendent for teaching & learning, praised the schools on behalf of the district. Dr. Cheryl Jennings, division director of elementary teaching & learning, presented the school principals with banners to be displayed at their respective campuses. Increased scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) are cited as a major reason for the overall improvement. Five IISD schools received the rating last year.

Representatives from Lamar Middle School – including administrators, teachers and students – were honored by the Board of Trustees for having earned the TEA ranking of Recognized.
